Artist Statement: Hi, I'm Clara. I am 14, and I began drawing when I was about 8 years old, and was inspired by my sister, who loved art. She was always working on a canvas in the living room when I walked into the house. She made me want to become an artist. I love to draw because it allows me to be creative and create things that I think of. Once and awhile, I will look at something and get an idea and keep it in my head to draw later. I hope that whatever I pursue in, that I am happy with it and still get to use a creative mindset.
Medium: oil paint on 11" x 14" canvas
Artist Statement: My piece of work is called "Hurla Pasture," as it is a landscape painting of the land that has been in my family for generations. My great grandparents owned the land. Over time, it has become the home of several of their descendants. As I grew up, on this portion of the land, it has inspired my love of painting landscapes for others to enjoy.
Medium: mixed media - colored pencil
Artist Statement: Brown vs. Board of Education was one of the most important Supreme Court decisions of the 20th century, and we can never forget the courage of those that made it possible.
